How to paste ChatGPT into Gmail without the asterisks
Paste the answer into the converter below, copy it as rich text, and paste that into your Gmail draft.
Gmail's compose window is an HTML editor. It renders whatever HTML is on the clipboard, which is why text copied from a web page arrives with its bold and its links intact. What it will not do is interpret Markdown.
ChatGPT and Claude write their answers in Markdown and put them on the clipboard as plain text. So ## Next steps arrives as two hash marks and a normal-sized line, **Owner:** arrives with the stars still attached, and a hyphen list stays a column of hyphens. The formatting you saw in the chat was the chat app rendering the Markdown on screen for you. None of that rendering is on the clipboard.
Unmark puts the rendered version on the clipboard instead, so Gmail receives real HTML and keeps it.
